It wasn’t just a website. It was home.

A place built by devs, for devs, where the community came first.

2018 – The Beginning of Change

Microsoft bought GitHub for $7.5B.
They promised independence.
We believed them.

GitHub would remain community-first, they said.
But the first cracks were visible.

2025 – The End of an Era

CEO Thomas Dohnke is gone.
GitHub is now fully absorbed into Microsoft’s AI machine.

No more “separate company.”
No more buffer to protect the developer community.

From now on:

• [ ] Your commits = training data
• [x] Your projects = products

The question has changed:

• ❌ “What do developers want?”
• ✅ “What does Microsoft’s AI need?”

Sure, maybe Copilot will improve.
Maybe repos will stay free.

But the soul? Gone.

GitHub is no longer GitHub.
It’s Microsoft AI Hub now.

Goodbye, Old Friend

Goodbye, home for devs.
Goodbye, community-first platform.
Goodbye, GitHub. 😊
